What is drawing, and why is it important? ” was the first thing that was asked to us. Well, drawing is anything made up with lines or dots, that have a rhythm, flow, momentum with light and shade. Drawing is important as it helps our observation power and helps us to convey ourselves even better. Then we were explained the elements and principles of design:-
The Elements of design are-
- Line
- Shape
- Form
- Color
- Texture
- Space
- Value
The Principles of design are-
- Pattern
- Contrast
- Emphasis
- Balance
- Scale
- Harmony
- Movement
Later we saw a movie called “Loving Vincent” . It is Vincents story depicted in oil painting. Through Vincents paintings we learnt he was one of the first to draw in perspective at the same time we studied his unique painting “starry nights” Where he highlighted the sky even though it was are the background.
Human figures
week 2
9.08.2019

This class was all about human figures and how we should learn how to capture the character and essence of the figures.
We studied how every human posture has a single line going from top to bottom, which is the longest line. I was amused when I got to know that every posture is either in a C, S Or I shape.
It was a very interesting class as each one of us had to come up with a pose and all of us had to draw him or her.
My sketches were like this;-

Site drawings
week 3
16.08.2019
Maam taught us what is Foreground, Midground and Background. When we sketch an image, we divide it in 3 types of ground- Foreground, Midground, and Background. We have to identify what each ground is and sketch it accordingly. We also add tones based on the ground.
Foreground is the part that is in front and below the focus of the photograph. It is the front part of the picture. In order to sketch the foreground, we can make it dark so that it stands out of the rest.
Midground is the focus or middle part of the photograph. Midground is a little behind the foreground. In order to sketch the midground, we can use a little lighter tone than the one used for foreground.
Background is the backdrop of the setting. It is the part that is not focused on. It comes along with the focused image. In order to colour the background, we can use a light tone. It need not be very dark or very light. It has to be lighter than the midground.
To understand this better we had to sketch out a day photograph and a night photograph.
This is what i made:-

Object drawing
week 4
23.08.2019
Todays class was about lateral drawing or object drawing and emphasizes on the process of getting the shape and proportion of the object right. We should be able to observe the object in order to get the shape of the object along with its proportions right.
So the objects that i sketched and observed are :-

Nature drawings
week 5
30.08.2019
Prior this class we were asked to bring twigs, leaves, flowers etc. And then we were asked to sketch those out. We were explained the intricacy and at the same time the softness of nature. We had to bring out the character of the natural thing and identify the different tones.
This is what i sketched;-
We had to make sure that they dont look plastic and fake, rather they should hold the texture of the natural thing.

Perspective drawings
week 6
6.09.2019
This class was about perspective. Linear drawing is further divided into three types- One point perspective, Two point perspective and Three point perspective.
Step by step we were told us about the horizon of the drawing, eye level and vanishing point.
Noticing the different curves of the object at different heights and angles made the class very interesting.

3 point perspective
week 7
13.09.2019
In todays class we learnt about 3 point perspective. We made different objects in different angles to understand this better.

Review work
Week 8
20.09.2019
In todays class our work till now was reviewed. Maam reviewed all our work and helped me with few human proportions.
Maam asked me to render a human figure drawing in colour. It was very interesting that after i had lernt 3 point perspective my drawings had transformed and started looking better than before. It was more proportionate. So This is what i made:-

Colour
week 9
27.09.2019
In today’s class we studied the colour palette and the colour schemes. Learning about new colour schemes helps us understand the colours to abide to when drawing and colouring.
Each colour wheel is used for a specific reason. It depends on the mood, theme, lighting etc.

To understand colour schemes better we decided to make our own colour schemes using photographs. We had to identify the exact colour and make that-

Landscape painting
week 10
4.10.2019
To understand colour schemes even further we painted a landscape using any medium.I used poster paints to render this landscape-

Introduction on zine
week 11
11.10.2019
In todays class we were introduced to a new project, which was making a zine. So it began with discussing the basic difference drawing, illustration and graphic.
Drawing is basically a hobby, illustrations are final drawings which have been refined and are done either on the paper or digitally, whereas graphic is where you can improvise on the illustration and are able to mass print of different sizes without spoiling the illustration.
We were explained how to come up with a story line. It should have characters, theme, emotion and a plot twist.
So since i recently started watching superhero movies i was fascinated by it and it was the first thing that came in my mind. i decided to make a zine on superheros.
I made a simple story on good vs evil, having a single superhero character but it lacked drama and plot twist. So i decided to think about it.
Story building
week 12
18.10.2019
In todays class i finally came up with a story.
The theme i chose was good vs evil, and at the same time i wanted to throw light on how bullying and torturing someone can have negative affects on a person.
My story is about a boy called firoz who used to be tortured and bullied by everyone. So one from all the torture he ran away and landed in a deserted forest. To his shock, he saw a meteorite approaching the Earth and it blasted in the forest. Firoz blew away with the explosion. Because of the diect radiations from the blast, it causes genetic mutations in his body and he transforms into a fireman. At the same time this meteorite also falls on a lake where a fisherman was fishing. Fireman having all the hatred and anger for people, brings out his evil spirit. His vengeance causes him to hurt innocent people. Meanwhile, the lake causing reverse effects on the meteorite radiations transforms the fisherman into a waterman superhero. He comes in time to rescue people to save them from the tortures on fireman. Both not being able to stand each others power battle it out and as the saying goes, good always triumphs over the evil, waterman won. Him being blessed with a kind heart and soul, saves everyone from the tyranny of fireman.
Character building
week 13
8.11.2019
In this class I made my character fireman. I took references from the net, but came up with a new costume and logo for fireman.

I also rendered few of my frames
Zine compilation
week 14
15.11.2019
In this class i was rendering my frames. The title of my story is – FIRE VS WATER. Medium used is mexed media- pen and ink with water colours.
Frame 1
Firoz sees a meteorite approaching.
Frame 2
He is blown away in the blast
Frame 3
Firoz transforms into fireman.

Frame 4
Waterman enters while fireman is torturing the innocent.
Frame 5
waterman and fireman battle it out.
Frame 6
Waterman wins.
Final Zine
My zine had two characters. A villain and a hero. the villain is the fireman for which ive used red colour to depict fire and to show his anger, whereas for the hero ive used the colour blue to depict water and depict the calmness and the peace he brings.
This zine is not completely coloured. It is half black and white and half coloured. I only used colour to depict the important parts in a frame. This is what my final zine looks like-
