Synonyms
week 1
6.01.2020
This is the first class after our long enough break and I was fully armed with questions as to why our faculty was our studio teacher yet again. But to my disappointed we were allotted a substitute. It turned out to be a very interesting and funny class.
We were given 8 words from which we had to choose one and find its synonyms and try to understand how different it sounded when tried to replace it with the original word in a sentence made with it.
the 8 words were:-
- serendipity
- phenomenon
- obnoxious
- coherence
- incorrigible
- inscrutable
- trepidation
- armistice
We chose the word incorrigible and the synonyms are:-
- hardened
- rouge
- intractable-hard to control
- inveterate- having a particular habbit that is long established and unlikely to change
- irredeemable
- unreformed
etc.
The sentence we chose for the word is – ‘His dark soul was incorrigible to repent.’
We made groups and performed a little skit on the word incorrigible. Our skit was about how a person even after being objected multiple times doesnt want to leave smoking.
The challenges we faced was the time when we had decided the meaning of the word among the many definitions on google. We finally decided that the meaning is something which has gone way ahead in time worse and cannot be changed. We also faced another challenge as to the professor told us to enact the same way but for something else apart from smoking.
We learnt from the skit how there can be different ways of describing a word and how to decide that one way that gives out the meaning correctly.

Thumbnails on dream cities
week 4
27.01.2020
In this class we had to choose 3 cities out of the 6 cities that we had created in seminar class and visually represent it.
The first city i thought of making was the city of the dead.
In the depths of the black abyss that lies below the necropolis of Hamunaptra live the hooded brothers. It’s a city of dead where they all feed on freshly planted bodies and out of the many activities they perform it is the carefree moments that take place first. All corpses are dried in such a way that most of it is bones with flesh pieces still stuck/hanging on them along with parasites and insects that have now become buddies still feeding on them. The hooded brothers do not have a concept of time as time is money and patience which they have none. Everybody is dancing on their music of soul. There is a master of the confraternity that sits on the tombstone with names engraved on it who he had skillfully murdered. Everyone is in high spirited and tipsy on the blood drinks. There are flowers that grow downwards from the necropolis that the livings leave for them everyday. There is a party going on with dingy lights and eye topped drinks. The corpses have black hoods on with inverted cross pendants. On one side you can see the corpses playing table tennis with chopped hands and an eyeball whereas on the other you can see everyone on grooving with raised glasses in the trippy lights coming from a half broken skull disco ball.

I had’nt written much of the city of the dead, just had an idea. But while making the illustrations, New ideas and inspirations started to come in and it helped me in writing my story better.
Final drawing
week 5
3.02.2020
Inthis class we were supposed to get 2 other sets of thumbails for our stories.
The second city that i describe about it the city of illusions-
It is the city of illusions that will show you all the riches and happiness in the world in one city. You would long to go there and be a part of it but before you realize anything you have already been fooled by its charms. You rejoice in observing the grand bridges over canals with massive designer pillars, huge domes with statues of queens and kings, grand staircases with tracery balustrades, variety of windows, polished marbles, different colour pebbled stones on the pathway, a swing on the waterfall. You can see riches flowing from everywhere, everyone is happy, gold houses with diamond studded utensils. Expensive silks and jewellery being worn. When i went there I also saw a lady selling fruits who was wearing white and had yellow eyes. My mother a few days before she died had the same yellow eyes. This city shows you things you long for and wish would happen but before you soak in whats the truth the city fades before your eyes. The high top windows, arcades, pillars are expunged. All the rest of the city changes. The grand staircase turns into an never ending spiral. The domes look dark and dingy and broken.
Many are cities like this that elude the gaze of all and promises things. It s you who have to figure out whats the truth and whats not.

The third city i wrote about was on a recycled city-
In the earlier centuries, its height reduced by collapsing of the beams and pillars and by the shifts of the terrain, rusted and stopped through neglect or lack of maintenance men. Slowly the city collapses and became a dump yard. Waste was dumped on the land for many years and it was miles of waste. People of that place start reducing in numbers and those who stayed started living under the waste. They took shelter in waste heaps. Their was no natural element it in. The oxygen was cut down and methane was the only gas present in that environment.
Soon the people there adapted to the situation and natures 1st condition is to adapt. People started making house out of tires, cardboard scraps , metal scraps.Everybody wore masks and their was oxygen gas pump stations where everyone would fill the cylinders with fresh air.Trees were formed from the plastic bottles and living organisms were created from polythene bags and paper, and fabric scraps. The natives there changed the land into a recycled city. Everything was made out of waste.

The painting i was asked to do on was the city of dead as i had the most clear picture for it.
Overall after making the thumbnails I had even a clearer picture of my cities. I could visualize it. After completing the exercise i answered my question of whether to show parts of a city or the entire city. I wanted to focus on parts of city but make sure it looks illustrations of the same place.
Final painting and layers
week 6
10.02.2020
The final painting of my story was of the city of dead. The painting made me understand the perspective and gave me a sense of proportions. To bring out the foreground ,i highlighted it by making the background darker and faded. I could clearly see the foreground and the background of my illustration.

Prototyping and iterations
week 8
24.02.2020
Making a prototype made me realize how important the measurements of the box is. Even 2-3 millimeters different on the edges made the box wobble. I made a prototype layer as well to see how it sticks and looks. I was using a precision knife for the first time and it seemed the most difficult task of my life. However i did practice and overcame that difficulty.
The two iterations of the same story made me think harder and I finally came up with very unique ideas. I could put every detail of my story on paper as a illustrated form. It made it easier for me to chose which one i wanted to convert into a tunnel box.

Tunnel book
week 9
2.03.2020
For the final tunnel book i traced different layers of seperate tracing sheets and traced them again by invertig them so that it gets traced through pencil markings. It was traced on a sheet of 10″ by 10″ inches 250 gsm ivory sheet papers with 1 cm extra border for folding. I cut out the negative space using the precision knife. Made a box of 10″ by 10″ with the font open and stacked my layers one after the other in different distances which gave it a better depth. Lastly i added a light behind to throw light on the layers and through the shadows, it formed 3D picture with 2D layers.

This exercise helped in understanding different layers of a picture and hence how to play with shadows to bring out each layer. Cutting on a thick paper helped me be better skilled with cutting.
Mind mapping- A
week 10
9.03.2020
We had a new exercise in which to understand our disciplines better we had to make three mind maps-

This exercise helped me in categorizing each elements in different disciplines better. It helped me learn how to make a proper mind map and also how to interlink things.
Mind mapping B
week 11
16.03.2020
In this class we had to narrow down our topic. I chose to go ahead with communication design. I have always been inclined towards advertisements and film and hence decided to go ahead with Commercial video advertisements.

Selecting Aspect
week 12
23.03.2020
In this class we were asked to select the aspect we wanted to go ahead with.
After a discussion with my faculty i felt that my aspect “commercial video advertisements” ws still very broad, hence i decided to go ahead with script writing. Script writing is an essential part in any production. Hence i made a mind map again-

My faculty being an writer himself helped me in identifying issues in scrip writing. We identified 5-6 problems-
- Sensibility
- Market research
- Awareness of content by other writers
- Awareness of technical advancements in a production
- Sustainability
Design Intervention Iterations
week 13
30.03.2020
There were 4 iterations i came up with –
- Sustainability– In this iteration my main idea was to reduce the new number of scripts and audio visual contents that is being produced. In today’s time there is always a new script coming uo and new production being made. Instead we should used previous clips of a production to create a new one.
- Technological awareness – this would be an instagram page to educate writers and other production house members about the new technologies that have come in. They wil be educated through stand alone posts, igtv videos and process work photos. There will be videos of speakers explaining how things work.
- Market research of content- In this it would be an online platform for writers to search about already produced content. They would type in keywords and whole list of already made scripts ill come. This will ensure new material everytime. There will also be a news page regarding different awards and achievements in this field.
- Sensible– To produce better content overall this online site will help the appropriate writer connect to the producer with the most appropriate content. writers will be aware of the Target audience and hence will help in producing better scripts.

Sustainability
Awareness of technology
Content research
Sensibility
I decided to go ahead with the sensibility iteration as in a away it encompassed all issues. If sensible content is produced then the writer has awareness of technology as well as idea of the target audience. He is aware of the content which is already existing and has presented new and fresh ideas. Better script means better production and will be popular in the audience for longer, hence is sustainable.
