Week 1

Basic shapes and tools
The class started with a basic introduction to Adobe and the apps in it. Some including Illustrator are vector based apps and some like the Photoshop are raster based apps. A discussion followed about the different forms in which a document or a picture can be saved; example-PNG,JPEG,PDF etc.
We were introduced to Adobe Illustrator and basic tools in it.

Various keyboard shortcuts were also told to us.

Gestalt’s Principles and Pen Tool
Gestalts Principles are principles that are used to create a composition or a visual perception. The word Gestalt is German, and literally stands for a pattern, figure, form or structure that is unified.
The five gestalt’s principles are:-\
- Similarity– In a composition when things appear to be similar to each other (in colour,size or shape), we group them together. And we also tend to think they have the same function.
- continuity– this when there is a flow and rhythm in the elements what we see in a composition. Elements that are arranged on a line or curve are perceived to be more related than elements not on the line or curve.
- proximity– This happens when there are lots of single elements getting compiled in such a manner that they make something meaningful.
- figure ground– This principle states that people perceive objects as either being in the foreground or the background. They either stand out prominently in the front (the figure) or recede into the back (the ground). A kind of an illusion is created.
- closure– This principle states that when we look at a arrangement of visual elements which are not connected to each other but we tend to look at it as single, recognizable pattern, meaning our mind encloses the figure, is called closure.

We were taught how to use the pen Tool and how to trace the images we require for our art works.

Layers and Blend Tool
We were given an introduction to the layers used in Illustrator. To learn the layers we made a 2D vector character using layers, basic shapes and the pen tool.
We were then introduced to the blend and mesh tool to make our art works more realistic and 3D. We learnt how to distort a text and bend and shape it according to our will. We learnt how to blend different coloured shapes and lines. We also learnt the clip mask tool.

Symbols and posters
We were introduced to the inbuilt symbols and swatches available in Illustrator. We lean how to create our own brush and use it creatively for our designs. We also learnt the line trace tool.
The different brushes that we learnt were;-
- art brush
- pattern brush.
- Scatter brush

WEEK 5

Due to heavy downpour,only 3 people had turned up for the class.Me too could’nt join the class due to the rain. I asked my classmates and they informed me that this class was mostly on doubt clearing and different and more advanced techniques that one can do with illustrator.
Introduction to Photoshop

Photoshop is a rastor based application made mainly for photo editing,clipping images into one another and digital drawing. It has a vast variety of tools,different special effects and there can be varied effects that can be created by using this app.
The most basic and important tool that we were introduced to was the “selection tool”.Selection tool is used to select an object or a particular part of the image. You can select multiple sections or even subtract some. Another type of selection tool is lasso tool. there are 3 types -polygon,magnetic and free hand lasso tool. then there is the magic wand that automatically selects objects of the same colour or properly demarcated area.

We also learnt clip masking. We created a polaroid effect using clipmask.

In this class we dealt into more special effects and layer masking and clip mask. To understand masking better we were given a task to make the spiderman coming out of the polaroid photos.
We were also showed different blend effects and how phone companies create these kinds of effects.
Digital makeup and masking
Week 9

In this class we were showed how to do digital makeup and non destructive method to add effects of the image.
we were also shown how to remove wrinkles using a patch tool and how to make a old person look young.
To make our masking more fluent we did an exercise which cleared all my doubts.
We also did an interesting exercise where we had to figure out which masking to use. So this is what i did;-

Today we learnt special effects in photoshop. We learnt how to add text in portrait, natural fire effect and weave effect.
In the fire effect we learnt about the different channels that are there in an image. To bring out a natural effect and not a copy paste effect, we extract a particular channel we thing suits the best. For this i took out the green channel.
Then we learnt the weave effect. It was very tedious but the outcome was very pretty.
Content aware and perspective

Today we learnt content aware fill. Content aware fill is when we don’t want a particular thing in a picture and fill it with pixels surrounding the thing. This is exactly how this works.
We also learnt how to content aware move. We learnt how to move things in perspective. to understand this better we did an exercise:-
We had to make and show a movie poster made on photoshop. I took inspiration from the bollywood movie luka chupi and made a remake by clicking own photographs with my friends,editting them and remaking it.
Zine
Week 12

We had to render our own illustrations made in drawing class digitally. I tried using illustrator i realised that only rastor effects in photoshop would help my zine. So to used curves to correct the brightness and contrast of my scanned images ,used soft brushes to fill the drawings and copy pasted and used some cheat techniques to render my art digitally.

In todays class sir told us that we should always print our zine in pdf as the prints might get pixelated or change the font used.

In todays class sir taught us a last technique , which was to create 3D objects. He showed us how we can make a bottle ,a dice and make a pattern on each side of the dice. But 3d designs take a lot of space so we should convert them into 2d.
This was the final day to make the zine.
Zine: Fire vs Water
My zine was based on super heros and also to throw light on how bullying can change a person. Firoz was a weak man who was bullied and beaten up by everyone. One day we ran to a forrest where he saw a meteorite was hitting the earth. The direct radiations made genetic mutations in him and changed him into fireman. He turns evil because of the hatred he had for everyone. At the same time the meteorite also fell on a lake where a fisherman was passing by. He changes into a waterman with a kind heart and fought with the fireman. As the saying goes, good always triumphs over evil, waterman won and saved everyone from the tyranny of fireman.
My zine was a pop-up zine and i enjoyed a lot while making it.
